The Seven Dimensions of Wellness
Wellness combines seven dimensions such as physical, spiritual, environmental, mental/intellectual, emotional, occupational, and social of well-being into a quality way of living. Wellness is the ability to live life to the fullest and to maximize personal potential in a variety of ways, and places responsibility on the individual involves continually learning and making changes to enhance your state of wellness.
* Physical of Wellness is about taking care of your body and most commonly associated with being healthy. It involves aspects of life that are necessary to keep yourself in top condition. Physical wellness is also concerned with developing personal responsibility for your own health care, such as caring for yourself by doing good exercise regularly and eat a well balance diet and to build your muscular strength and endurance, cardiovascular strength and flexibility.
* Spiritual Wellness implies a search for meaning and purpose in human existence leading one to strive for a state of harmony with oneself and others while working to balance inner needs with the rest of the world including prayer, faith, love, closeness to others, peace, joy, fulfillment, and altruism. Prayer on the other hand is a signpost of spirituality at the core of most spiritual experiences. It is communication with a higher power. At least 200 studies have been conducted on the effects of prayer on health. About two-thirds of these studies have linked prayer to positive health outcomes as long as these prayers are offered with sincerity, humility, love, empathy, and compassion.
* Environmental Wellness is refers to the effect that our surroundings have on our well-being. To enjoy the Environment we require clean air, no chemicals, pure water, quality food with no contamination, no noise, adequate shelter, satisfactory work conditions, personal safety, and good healthy relationships with others.
* Mental/Intellectual Wellness implies that you can apply the things you have learned, create opportunities to learn more, and engage your mind in lively interaction with the world around you.
* Emotional wellness is the ability to be aware of and direct one’s feelings helps to create balance in life. Coping with challenges and behaving in trustworthy and respectful ways signal emotional wellness, attributes that can be encouraged through peer counseling, stress management, humor/laughter and personal histories. Emotional is also the ability to express emotions appropriately, adjust to change, cope with stress in a healthy way, and enjoy life despite its occasional disappointments and frustrations
* Occupational Wellness means successfully integrating a commitment to your occupation into a total lifestyle that is satisfying and rewarding. The development of occupational satisfaction and wellness is strongly related to your attitude about your work.
* Social Wellness, involves a concern for oneself and an interest in humanity and the environmental and to have a social interactions with family, friends, neighbors and chosen peer groups can be valuable for maintaining health. Personal contact by joining clubs, traveling, visiting friends and family, engaging in generational experiences like making quilts with a elementary school children is beneficial for everyone who it touched.
